Install the app
Gregor runs on Android, iOS, and Windows. Download links will appear on the home page when the apps are released.
First launch
Section titled “First launch”You do not need an account to start. On first launch the app:
- Creates this installation’s identity, a device address that starts with
dv1. The address is derived from keys that never leave the device. - Creates the This device channel, which sends only to this installation, with a default send URL you can copy right away.
You can send your first alert before signing in. Sign in later to create channels, subscribe to other people’s channels, and receive alerts on all your devices; see Devices and accounts.
Allow notifications
Section titled “Allow notifications”Alerts always arrive in the app’s inbox. To be interrupted by them, the operating system must allow Gregor’s notifications. Open Settings, and under This device check System notification permission:
- Allowed: notifications can appear. You can still turn them off in system settings.
- Denied: choose Open settings and enable notifications for Gregor.
- Not requested yet: choose Allow.
Urgent alerts and Do Not Disturb
Section titled “Urgent alerts and Do Not Disturb”Urgent alerts should reach you even when the phone is silenced. Grant the extra permission in Settings under This device:
| Platform | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| iOS | Critical alert access | Lets urgent alerts bypass system limits such as Focus and the mute switch. |
| Android | Do Not Disturb bypass | Lets urgent alerts sound while Do Not Disturb is on. |
The operating system can still restrict notifications, and the permission does not prove that a notification was shown. Choose how each level is presented in Alert levels and reminders.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”Turn on Launch at startup under This device so Gregor starts when you sign in to Windows. Desktop alerts can only be shown while the app is running; alerts that arrive while it is closed wait in the inbox.
Language
Section titled “Language”The app follows the system language. To change it, open Settings → Language and choose System, English, or 简体中文.
